Behavior
Necromancers stay far behind their undead minions and cast spells from there. There is rarely more than one of them. They are guarded by two undead bodyguards who have shields and will try to Knock Back anyone who gets near a Necromancer. On the first turn, however, they sometimes can become exposed to shots.
They cast Possess Undead to make an undead more dangerous, prioritizing those who are in melee already, and Fallen Heroes over Wiedergangers if they have a choice. They can cast it twice per turn, waiting after the first cast.
Also they cast Raise Undead to bring an undead back to unlife with full HP. They again prefer to cast it on Fallen Heroes. If the tile with the corpse if occupied, they are unable to raise it. They also can raise corpses of normal humans killed in battle, which use stats of Wiederganger Brother and a "Wiederganger" is added before their names.
They can't cast spells if engaged in melee.
They have 8 vision instead of 7 that units have normally.
Tips
*Possessed undead swing one-handed weapons three times, and two-handed weapons twice. Accuracy is also increased.
*Possess Undead is canceled if he is stunned, hit for 10 damage or killed, or the target is stunned or killed.
*Engage them in melee to stop spellcasting.
*One of tactics against them is sniping. You need a few archers with Bullseye, who are deployed in frontline, then move forward and shoot. Falcon on a brother with high initiative allows to reveal the position of the Necromancer. Spiked Impaler is not recommended because it knocks Necromancers out of range. Melee troops must guard archers and not let anyone come close.
**Arrows from Bloodletter's Reach cause bleeding, not only dealing extra damage but also canceling their concentration on Possess Undead, even if you miss your next shot.
*Another tactic is just dealing very high damage to undead. Spells may be annoying, but as long as a Necromancer is alive, two undead will guard him and not fight you.
*Flanking can be dangerous because of Geist screams and a stray undead engaging you in melee.
*Sometimes they spawn on the north side, with too few troops guarding them. These are vulnerable to flanking.
*If a Necromancer starts fleeing, bodyguards leave him and attack. He will likely rally on the next turn.
