Behavior
Lindwurm is a two-tile monster. Its head and tail occupy separate tiles. They share HP, armor, fatigue and morale. When the head acts, the tail acts right after it. The tail tries to stay close to the head, but sometimes becomes disconnected. The tail ignores zone of control. Fatigue decreases only on head's turns. Effects like Bleeding, Daze, Taunt and Overwhelm affect each part separately. Injuries are not shared and only affect the head.
Non-critical hits to the head are redirected to the body. Critical hits to the tail are not redirected but do critical damage and inflict head injuries. If the tail is hit by Split Man, all damage goes to the body.
Both head and body will splash attackers with acid when hit for 10 damage, but only if attacked from adjacent tiles. Being next to one part and attacking the other of the same Lindwurm from a safe distance will still splash with acid.
Tips
*Their extreme damage and toughness make them dangerous to fight in direct combat.
* Use polearms and reach weapons to avoid acid effect. Whips and bows are effective when their armor is broken. Cleavers' Decapitate attack deals high damage when they are already wounded.
*Prefer attacking the tail. It can receive criticals and you avoid wasting effort on head armor. Area attacks that hit both parts do damage twice.
*They are slow. Bait characters, usually sergeants, can distract and make them run around the map as long as you want. Pathfinder is essential for them. The squad can either Footwork away while dealing damage or kill Lindwurms one by one using a tank to separate a Lindwurm from the group.
*Indomitable reduces damage and gives stun immunity. When you need to Recover and a tail is about to attack you, don't end turn immediately, because then if you will be stunned, the effect will go away at the end of your turn.
* Bone Plating absorbs one hit to the body.
*Take Nine Lives to survive a heavy hit.
*Lindwurm Helmet, Lindwurm Armor and Lindwurm Scale Cloak resist their acid.
*Control heads with Taunt.
* Avoid area attacks of their tails.
*They aren't hard to Overwhelm, but Overwhelm isn't shared between parts. Ranged attacks without Bullseye apply Overwhelm to both parts as shots go astray.
*To prevent rallying of a fleeing Lindwurm, both head and tail must be adjacent to a brother.
*Injuring them is impractical but possible. Take Crippling Strikes and use Greatsword's Overhead Strike, Shamshir's Gash with Sword Mastery, Fencing Sword's Lunge with extremely high initiative, or two-handed cleaver's Decapitate when the Lindwurm is wounded. The hit must be critical, and you still need Huge, Drunkard, Killing Frenzy, Strange Mushrooms or the weapon to be named and having increased damage to have a chance to inflict an injury.
