|-|Beast slayers=
* 90% chance of trophies:
**Ancient Wood (40% chance), Glowing Resin (40% chance) or Heart of the Forest (20% chance). 50% chance of another one, rolled separately.
**25% chance of Ancient Amber (500 crowns).
Behavior
Schrats reduce damage greatly if they have a shield and can regrow it. Fire Pots do triple damage to them. If hit by 60 damage or more, they spawn a Sapling if there is a free tile for it. It acts on the next round.
Schrats have an area attack that can only hit straight lines. It can strike right through obstacles. They very much like to attack multiple characters with it even if taunted. They seem to be attracted to tight formations where this attack would be effective, and often actively avoid engaging single targets, moving around them instead.
Their shields don't drop.
Tips
*They can kill early game brothers with one head hit, and will easily inflict injuries even in late game, unless brothers use Indomitable or have extremely high HP.
*Axes are recommended to break shields and rid Schrats of their damage reduction. It does not require melee skill or Double Grip.
*They have 2000 effective HP if you don't break their shields.
*If their numbers are low enough, they leave blind spots for your backliners to attack from.
*Surround them if possible to prevent Saplings from spawning. Partial surrounding also works because Saplings occupy tiles too.
*One-handed weapons with shields don't cause Saplings to spawn and provide some defense.
*Two-handed weapons do more damage, but cause Saplings to spawn. Killing Saplings activates Berserk and Killing Frenzy, causes a 5% morale check on all Schrats and gives XP.
*Dazing Schrats with two-handed maces reduces their damage to the point where it's insufficient to injure a properly built lategame brother in the beginning of combat.
*They aren't hard to Overwhelm, but stagger on hits, ruining your initiative.
*Bone Plating absorbs one hit to the body.
*They resist ranged weapons, but not melee piercing.
*Two tanks in a line distract them without Taunt at the cost of receiving more attacks.
