Behavior
Kraken fight has two phases. In the first phase tentacles always try to grab brothers and drag them to the head, which has a guaranteed instant kill attack hitting all tiles adjacent to it. Entangled brothers are dragged at the start of their turn. Tentacles respawn when killed, and Kraken takes HP damage, 190 initially, but decreases by 5 with each tentacle to a minimum of 35.
The second phase begins when its HP drops below half, or when six tentacles die. Tentacles gain a high damage bite attack, but sometimes will still entangle, and they begin to deal 10-15 HP damage to entangled characters. In this phase, as the Kraken's HP lowers, so does the number of tentacles. Kraken loses one tentacle at each of 43,75%, 37,5%, 31,25% and 25% HP thresholds.
Breaking free from tentacles is similar to nets. Successfully disentangling damages the tentacle for 15-30 damage, but leaves it with at least 25 HP.
Kraken head and its tentacles are not affected by morale and have no zone of control. Body hits that Kraken head takes are redirected to the head.
Tips
* High melee skill is good to have because it is required to disentangle and tentacles are somewhat evasive.
* Fatigue management is important in this fight. Pathfinder and Recover are recommended. You also may consider using Second Wind Potions.
* Goblin Trophy gives immunity to tentacle grab. This allows to play following tactics.
** Attacking the head until second phase and finishing it more quickly.
** Hiding everyone else in bushes and luring tentacles to the corner of the map, then beating the head.
** Deploying a single brother with Lone Wolf, Polehammer and Swordlance, damaging tentacles and the head, recovering fatigue and then killing all tentacles for massive damage to Kraken.
* Oathtakers don't have Goblin Trophy but some oaths like Oath of Dominion can be useful in this battle.
* If you are fighting fairly without Goblin Trophy, it's too risky to approach the head. Kraken can be killed with tentacle damage alone.
* Tight formation allows to disentangle more reliably.
* 6 AP weapons don't pair well with 4 AP breaking free.
* Polehammer is the best weapon for breaking its armor. Lack of zone of control makes it possible to use cleavers' Decapitate on wounded Kraken and step back to safety.
* Try to hold a piece of dry land surrounded by a swamp. Swamp debuffs stats, including those of tentacles. If adjacent to swamp, brothers will sometimes throw tentacles into it after disentangling.
* Enraged tentacles hit very hard. Control them by stunning or taunting.
* Bandages can always be used because tentacles have no zone of control. Nine Lives protects against both heavy hits and bleeding.
* Hide wounded brothers in bushes to keep them alive.
